Now that Spring has sprung many homeowners will be looking to embark on their DIY or home improvement tasks over the weekend. UniBond have recently released some new research that might be surprising to some. This research reveals that nearly half (48%) of UK homeowners enjoy doing their own home improvements! However, many are still put off due to the time it takes to do the job (48%) and lack confidence in achieving a perfect finish or making a mistake (44%).

The most common “disaster” is putting a nail or screw through concealed water pipes or cables whilst tackling the tasks of putting up shelves and pictures, and confidence still lacks in achieving the perfect finish with sealing baths or sinks. Despite this it seems that there are some tasks that we are willing to tackle, with painting walls and filling in holes being the least daunting.

Interestingly, the DIY gender gap appears to be closing as 50% of men typically enjoy doing their own home improvements, compared to 45% of women. Controversially, less women (7%) have also experienced a “DIY disaster” in comparison to men (11%)!
